Group Gifting Trends
Trends, behaviors, and insights from a year of shared generosity.
May 28, 2025
Forget fronting the cost or chasing people down for their share. With eGifter’s group gifting, the organizer picks a gift card to send, and friends, family, or coworkers chip in whatever amount they’d like. Each contributor can add a personal message or photo, and the gift is delivered digitally with everyone’s name attached—no last-minute scrambles, no IOUs, no stress.
Group gifting has never been easier—or more thoughtful. And in 2024, thousands of people used it to celebrate, support, and show up for others in meaningful ways.
This report unpacks how, when, and why they did.
How Group Gifting Grew in 2024
Average Gift Size & Contributions
Up 8% from $388.27 in 2023
Up 6% from $40.52 in 2023
In 2024, people didn’t just show up for big moments—they showed up with meaning. And in a year marked by inflation and economic uncertainty, that generosity stood out even more. People may have tightened personal budgets, but when it came to showing up for others, they still found ways to give—together.
What We’re Group Gifting For
Most Popular Group Gifting Occasions in 2024
Life’s biggest moments continue to inspire the most generosity. In 2024, nearly half (49.7%) of all group gifts were for Life Moments—from baby showers and weddings to housewarmings and retirements.
Personal Support came in strong, too, accounting for 21.4% of group gifts. Whether someone was navigating illness, grief, or a major transition, group gifting made it easy for communities to show up in meaningful ways.
Appreciation gifts—for teachers, coaches, and admin teams—made up nearly 12% of gifts, proving that gratitude is still a powerful motivator.
Celebrations and holidays held a combined 12.7% of all group gifts—split between 7.8% for birthdays and other celebrations, and 4.9% for holidays and seasonal occasions. Whether marking a milestone or sharing joy during the holidays, these moments continue to bring people together in meaningful ways.
Smaller but still meaningful segments included “Other” gifts (2.4%) that didn’t fit a traditional category, Emergency Giving (1.0%) tied to urgent needs, and Community Giving (0.9%) where people rallied support for local causes.
How Much We Give
Average Value of Group Gifts by Occasion
Emergency Giving topped the list in 2024, averaging more than $860 per gift. In tough moments, communities rallied fast, pooling funds to offer real, immediate support.
Personal Support gifts—like helping a friend through illness or loss—averaged over $550. When people aren’t sure what to do, they often start with food. Think DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Instacart instead of a casserole, delivered with love (and fewer dishes to return).
Weddings and Baby gifts continued to shine, each averaging over $400. They’re practical, portable, and perfectly timed—no extra packages for the bride and groom to haul, and new parents get what they need, when they need it.
Retirement gifts stood out too, averaging nearly $500. Whether it’s a beloved colleague or a long-tenured boss, these gifts often reflect both a meaningful send-off and a generous group eager to show their appreciation.
How Many People Chip In
Average Group Size by Occasion
From classrooms to cribs, group gifting makes it easy to rally the whole crew. The organizer sets up the gift and shares the link. Contributors get reminders, the organizer gets updates, and the gift gets delivered—no collecting cash, no chasing Venmos, no awkward nudges.
In 2024, retirement gifts rallied the biggest groups—averaging over 14 contributors per gift, more than any other occasion. Birthdays and new homes, meanwhile, saw smaller, more intimate circles of support.
How Much People Give
Average Contribution per Person by Occasion
Yes, emergency relief gifts still topped the charts—averaging $81.85 per contributor—a powerful reflection of how communities rally when it matters most.
But beyond crisis giving, the real story of group gifting in 2024 was everyday generosity. Whether supporting a friend, celebrating a new home, or saying thanks to a teacher, people consistently chipped in—proving that even small amounts can make a meaningful impact.
Boss’s Day had the lowest average contribution (We appreciate you, bosses—just on a budget.)
